Perfect Pussy

Perfect Pussy are the new face of art-hardcore. Taking parts of girl group charm, no age style experimentalism, and blood brother shrieking intensity they are a whole new animal. "Driver" off their recently released debut is a perfect example of why the band has become an indie darling for the Brooklyn set.

PP recently covered Bruce Springsteen's "Candy's Room" and turned it into a hellish synth fun house of mirrors. The original, an anthem song about teen love, is turned into to something even more warped than Suicide - a favorite of the Boss. In PP hands "Candy's Room" sound like an art film that Larry Clarke wouldn't go near.

Glass Animals

Glass Animals specialize in the kind of rhythmic, art rock that Bombay Bicycle Club and Foals are also exploring. The band takes queues from bands like Alt-J and Everything Everything, but lack the annoying vocal tics of those bands.

"Pools" is the latest single from the UK band, it continues to expand the already enormous sound. Tropical percussion mixes with synth pop melodies and layered vocals. It is the sound of a jungle dance party. Glass Animals debut album, Zaba, is out June 9.

Little Big League

Little Big League are from the same fertile Philly scene as Menzingers, Restorations, and countless others. They make the kind of classic indie guitar punk that is always appreciated. They toured with Paws last year and the two make a perfect 1-2. Where Paws channels 90s into fun, riff happy rock that pushes the high notes of your 20s - Little Big League remind you have it is your first taste of stress and responsibility.

Blackbird Blackbird

Blackbird Blackbird has released eponymous song off his forthcoming album, Tangerine Sky. "Tangerine Sky" is everything you want out of a late spring/early summer chill out track - squiggly synths, gauzy vocals, and infectious vibes. It makes for a great ride bikes at sunset tune. Blackbird Blackbird's latest album Tangerine Sky comes out June 3. Check out tour dates after the jump!

Hooray for Earth

Hooray for Earth are back with their first single "Keys" off of Racy, the follow up to 2011's excellent True Loves. "Keys" continues where True Loves left off with a synth-pop sound influenced by dance music, psychedelia and alt-rock. The guitars mid-way through the song have a very grunge tone to them, that works well with the thundering drums and the smeared, gauzy vocals. Hooray for Earth's new record, Racy, is out July 29 on Dovecote Records.

Pink Mountaintops

Pink Mountaintops are back with a new album, Get Back, out today on Jagjaguwar! These guys always produce enjoyable psych-pop that is a more uptempo version of Black Mountain. Pink Mountaintops are the speed addled garage rockers to Black Mountain's stoned out hippies.

Coachella 2014 - Weekend 1

I tend not to do a Coachella recap every year since - A) every blog/magazine/publication does one and B) I am frequently shooting from my phone or far away, so decent photos are hard to come by. However, I am going to this year because there were some excellent bands that I am not seeing much coverage for.

Flume @ Gothic Theater

On April 17 Flume played Denver's Gothic Theater. The show was a microcosm of why Flume is becoming one of the biggest Producers/DJs in the world.

Herzog

Herzog are a band out of Cleveland. Above is "Mad Men" the first single from their new album, Boys" out May 20th on Exit Stencil Records. Due to the Cleveland connection, everyone wants to compare the band to Cloud Nothings. This is a total disservice to Herzog. Cloud Nothings never wrote a fuzz pop song this catchy. Herzog remind me of bands like the Soft Pack or early Japandroids. "Mad Men" is so sugary that I have a cavity, but it is one of the best slacker pop songs of the new year.

Craft Spells

Craft Spells are back! After a couple quite years, Craft Spells are back with the first tune from their forthcoming sophomore album, Nausea. "Break the Angle Against the Tide" is a fantastic mix of strings, shoegaze twang guitars, and hushed lyrics. Where previous songs were tighter, "Break" less the music reflect off the broken angles. Craft Spell's album, Nausea, is out June 10 on Captured Tracks.

Summer Heart

It is warming up here in Denver, which means its time to start finding songs for spring and summer nights. The type of tunes that will make you want to ride bikes, drinks beers, and dance. I proudly present "U Got All I'm Looking 4" by Summer Heart. The song is one of those slinky, dubby pieces of bubble gum pop that sounds like a Rick James beach party.

Paws

Paws have posted a new song, "Tongues", the first single from forthcomming sophomore album, Youth Culture Forever. Great to hear that Paws have kept the core of their sound, but enhanced it slightly. Really looking forward to hearing it.

Fucked Up

Fucked Up - Glass Boys. I have no idea what the video is for. I am assuming an album, but who knows and really who cares. Anything that revolves around the phrase "new Fucked Up" makes me happy. Also, that video must have been from a while ago - Damian doesn't have his beard and he is much thinner/healthier now.

In related news, Fucked Up have released Year of the Dragon in the Zodiac series. I was at the LA show when they opened with it and let me tell you, its an epic. The single comes with two Toronto Hardcore classic covers. Go check it out.

Thee Oh Sees

Thee Oh Sees are following up 2013's Floating Coffin with 2014's Drop. If "Pentrating Eye" and "The Lens" are indications of the album, this will be a more subdued Thee Oh Sees compared to the more punk Floating Coffin and Putrifiers II. In late 2013, mastermind John Dwyer announced Thee Oh Sees were going on indefinite hiatus and were unsure when the band would tour again. At the moment Dwyer is working on his debut solo album. Drop will be released on Castle Face Records on April 19 (Record Store Day).

La Sera

Vivian Girls are Dead. Long Live Vivian Girls. More importantly, Vivian Girl's have given us a number of fantastic new artistic outlets including Katy Goodman's La Sera. "Losing to the Dark" is the first single from La Sera's up coming album. If I were to guess, the subject of the song will not be invited to the album release party. "Losing to the Dark" is a straight ahead rocker that reminds me equal parts the Long Blondes and Mika Miko. La Sera return with their third album, Hour of the Dawn, for Hardly Art on May 13th.

Fuzz

"Raise" is the first official video for Fuzz, the stoner rock side project of man of a million records - Ty Segall. Seriously, I don't know when the dude sleeps. "Raise" is the appropriate amount of slime, stoned riff, and paranoid 80's horror flick. Fuzz's self titled debut album came out on In the Red in 2013.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have returned with a new single from their forthcoming third album.  "Simple and Sure" goes another new direction for the band, which is pure pop. Previous releases have had pop tendencies that were mixed with shoegaze, twee, and other indie rock genres. This is the first time the band has gone straight for Top of the Pops. TPBPH latest album, Days of Abandon, is out April 22nd on Yebo Music.

Woods

For the first time since 2009, Woods did not release a new album. They remedying this by releasing With Light and With Love this April on Woodsist. I could take time to talk about the songs strummy, jangly jam, but at this point its expected by these guys. Just sit back and enjoy the tune.
