Temples

Temples are a new british psych band out of Midlands. They have a quintessentially british pastoral folk style, something vacuum sealed from the late 60's Pink Floyd. Where many bands use psych rock as a basis for heaviness, Temple keep a light touch to the songs. Instead of endless guitar shredding and noodling, these songs are relatively compact and efficient. A different kind of musical focus than Tame Impala or Black Mountain.

"Shelter Song" has a very mid-sixties Rolling Stones vibe. It reminds me in some ways of King Khan, except less amphetamized and degenerate. Its a very enjoyable slice of mod-psych pop, sort of like something you would hear on a Nuggets compilation. "Prisms" is very pastoral and country - think mid-period Kinks and you are headed in the right direction. "Shelter Song" is from the forth coming Shelter Song/Colours to Life 7" out July 23rd on Fat Possum Records

Girl Unit

Let's start the weekend off with some Girl Unit. These are only samples - so its hard to judge - but nothing captures my ear the way "Wut" did. Though there is some solid Acid Juke style tunes in here. Have a good weekend.

The Cribs

At this point I doubt that the Cribs need an introduction, but here is one anyway. The Cribs are a band from West Yorkshire, UK that are made up of three brothers and at one point employed a former smith. They make anthemic british rock that recalls all your favorite bands, without sounding like a rehash. Their album Men's Needs, Women's Need, Whatever is criminally underrated and was one of the first things my girlfriend gave to me that I fell in love with. Their latest single is "Come on, Be a No-One". The song combines the energetic guitars and big chorus we have come to expect from the lads. I have only heard a couple tracks, but the new album is definitely on the short list for the year already. Check out tour dates and another track after the jump!

Weird Dreams

Weird Dreams are a psych pop band from London. When I think of Psych pop I conjure up bands like Tame Impala. While Weird Dreams sound very little like Tame Impala, they do sound like absolutely fantastic indie rock. They kind of remind me of what Wavves and the Pains of Being Pure of Heart would sound like is they merged. The "ah-oh"'s of "Where'd I Go Wrong" are infinitely more beachy than 90% of Brooklyn bands. Definitely whats needed for the fall.

L-Vis 1990

L-Vis 1990-Tonight by Dafunkybeat

L-Vis 1990, co-founder of the Night Slugs camp, released his debut album, Neon Dreams, on October 3. Check out album tracks "The Beach" and "Tonight" above. Both tracks have a very sleek disco/80's electronic feel. I personally prefer "The Beach", its a little darker and I like the distorted male vocals.

Campfire Headphase: Young Montana

Young Montana? is an artist out of the UK. He makes beats that combine the best aspects of LA glitch and UK purple. Chances are you have heard his stuff before, but if not here is a nice little intro. He is currently on tour with Wu Lyf in Europe. Check out the Wu Lyf remix below.
