T-E-E-D x John Talabot

Confession: I have meant to check out T-E-E-D - Total Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs for the past couple months. They are brought up in conversation or on the bill of shows, but I always forgot to give them a good listen. In a completely unsurprising move it takes a John Talabot remix to get me to finally check them out. John Talabot can not be stopped, the man has a gift for creating heady psychedelic house music that absolutely takes over. Between the synths, the stuttering drums, and the vocal distortion within 30 seconds you know what you got. Enjoy the start to your weekend! Off the forthcoming Tapes & Money Single featuring other remixes by MJ Cole, Casino Times, and Eats Everything.

Chromatics

At long, long last new Chromatics! I am sure I am not the only one who has been looking forward for new Chromatics. I like Glass Candy well enough and the Johnny Jewel's soundtrack was awesome - but this is the real deal. A perfect piece of disco pop. Words are failing me at the moment, just listening and enjoy!

Blockhead

Blockhead has a new album coming out April 30th on Ninja Tune Records. The above track is the first song off the new album. Hard to believe how long and how good this man has been. I remember listening to Music By Cavelight on repeat to get through my senior year of High School and that was over 6 years ago. Anyway, the above is classic Blockhead - soul drums, distorted vocal samples, and solid bass line. Can't wait to hear the full album!

Japandroids

"Younger Us" is a new track from Japandroids off their new album Celebration Rock on Polyvinyl. I am very excited for their new album. Post-Nothing was one of my favorite albums of 2009. "Younger Us" is a refinement of what was started on Post-Nothing, though it lacks the instant ear worm nature of "Wet Hair". If the above track is any indication, Celebration Rock will be another testament to youth and rocking out. Get ready for the album of the summer.

Room E

Room E is a producer out of San Diego via the Bay. He make music in really creative and unique ways playing with found sound samples and changing up pitches to create the sounds heard. It is reminiscent of a bunch of seperate sounds including trip-hop, Nosaj Thing, and jazz groups like Medeski Martin and Wood. "Drowsy" is the song I have been digging the most - something about the subtleness of it has really connected with me. Room E's newest album Penguin Child will be released on Proper Songs soon.

Live: Ganglians

Last night I saw Ganglians, G Green, Vyper Skwad, and Teenage Burrito at the Til Two club in San Diego. Check out more after the jump.

Real Estate

Real Estate released their latest slice of jangle-y suburban guitar pop on March 5th with the "Easy" single on Domino. Above is "Easy"'s b-side, "Exactly Nothing". "Exactly Nothing" has a mellow Real Estate vibe. Excellently jammy jangle guitars, hushed semi-mutter vocals and just a very pleasant mellow tune. I will definitely be picking this one up on vinyl. Real Estate are on tour now including a stop at Coachella.

Marcellus Pittman

A nice ambient techno track to ease all of us back into the work week. This comes to us via the good folks over at Boiler Room. I do not know much about Marcellus Pittman, but I do know that this track is perfection. The subtle drums, the ambient synths, and the background little keyboard flourish. Mr. Pittman described the tune as "leaning on the DJ booth at 5 in the morning, having a little cry". Not sure if I am having that reaction, but it does go well with my morning coffee and reports.

Evian Christ

Evian Christ is a young beatsmith out of the UK. Where most young UK beat makers focus on house or dubstep, Christ has gone after the Clams Casino style trap ambient track. His tracks have the air synths of cloud rap, but stuttering drums of grime. His choice in sample also confirms that everything sounds more menacing over synths and roughed up vocals. Can't wait to see which tracks Lil B and A$AP choose to go in over.

M83 - Tropics Remix

M83 x Tropics = aural epicness. Where the original was up front and rocking, Tropic's airs everything out for a languid and light. Songs like "Reunion" really show the connection between M83 and Smashing Pumpkins. I personally prefer the slower, spacier "Reunion". The way the synths and vocals float around a perfect for daydreaming. Tropics should really do more remixes and I need more Tropics in my library, and on vinyl.

SBTRKT

This is just what my day needed - new SBTRKT. I have been listening to the SBTRKT album quite a bit lately and think that it is woefully underappreciated. Here is a bonus track that unfortunately never made it out. SBTRKT is on tour now including a stop at Coachella (photo above is from when he played Coachella last year at the fantastic small dome stage), check the dates after the jump.

Free Energy

Free Energy, the Philly classic/disco rock band, return with "Electric Fever". This is what I imagine the sound of 1973 Detroit was. The thick guitar chords, the cowbell, the awesomely simple lyrics. This is the sort of thing that would have been between "Slow Ride" and "Sweet Emotions". Someone needs to use this bad boy for a movie trailer real soon. This is off their forthcoming sophomore album, Love Sign, out on the DFA.
