Madlib is back with another hot tune, this one sampling zambian rock. There is talk of a collaborative album with Mos Def and a Zambian rock compilation for Urban Outfitters. Its always impressive what happens when he (or his brother) commit to using samples exclusively from one source.

Atomic Forest

A little raw analog funk for your Friday. This comes courtesy of the good people at Now Again Records, sister label to the always classic Stones Throw Records. I was looking for a soundcloud version of the new Oh No x Doom song, but instead found this and wow. What an absolutely incredible track. I don't know much about Atomic Forest, but I now know I have to get everything they have ever released. Have a good weekend people!

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Thuggin' by Rappcats

Gangsta Gibbs keeps his hot streak going with this Madlib collab. Its good to hear Madlib in straight hip-hop mode. Been a while since I have heard him make a beat for actual rapping. There is a forthcoming collab EP with "Thuggin" and five other tracks. This should be a epic release. Also check out Freddie Gibbs absolutely dominating Cults below.

DâM-FunK was on Beats in Space this week. It was an absolutely fantastic show, so much unreleased music was played that it was incredible.  As everyone knows - we are fans of the King of Funk. First, is the direct to vinyl recording of the Stepkids. This sounds like a really fun event. Stonesthrow and KCRW never disappoint when it comes to events like these. The Stepkids make sould music that sounds like lost 70s tracks rather than music influenced by 70s. If you played these with a much of Numero Group tracks no one would be able to tell the difference, high praise!


Only The Rugged Survive [feat. RZA] by TheRevelations

Second, is the above song. New Wu-Tang is always exciting and questionable, but this song is hot. RZA flows nicely over a nice soul sampling track. I am a big Wu-Tang fan, but 8 chambers was a mixed affair and then most of the new projects have been very spotty. Hopefully this new project will be more consistent.

DâM-FunK

I am sure anyone who is reading this blog knows all about the great DâM-FunK, but its always nice to periodically be reminded of greatness.  I have been listening to him a lot today, something about rainy days I guess.  Those silky smooth rhythms and funkiness have been helping me stay sane.  Wish I had been able to see the Stonefeeder event when I was in Coachella, but oh well.  Check out a couple choice tracks below and enjoy.
